Orencia
Orencia is an immunomodulator that disrupts the continuous cycle of T-cell activation that is prescribed to reduce the symptoms of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA). When you have RA, your immune system is attacking itself. This cycle leads to permanent change in your joints. Your immune system thinks your joints are under attack, so it starts to send signals to launch its own attack. When you have these attacks, it leads to the symptoms you feel in your joints. Without treatment, the cycle continues.

How Does Orencia Work?
TREATMENT EDUCATION
Orencia disrupts these signals and helps break this cycle. When your joints are under attack, it activates your T cells. When the T cells get activated, they send signals that lead to symptoms in your joints. Orencia blocks the T cells from being activated so it does not lead to signals being sent to your joints, preventing your body from attacking itself.
What to Expect During Your Infusion
Before your infusion, it is important to drink plenty of water and come to your appointment hydrated. Additionally, you must alert us as soon as possible to any changes in your insurance to ensure that we are still an in-network provider for your infusion therapy.
- Pure doesn’t believe in waiting rooms. You’ll be taken to your own private suite where you’ll check in and your nurse will take your vitals and complete a pre-infusion assessment.
- To begin the infusion, an IV line will be inserted into your arm or hand. The medication will be connected and the nurse will monitor the infusion carefully, especially the first few minutes, to watch for reactions or side effects and make sure you’re comfortable.
- When the infusion is complete, your IV will be removed and the nurse will apply a bandage. Your nurse will give you instructions on side effects to watch for and when to seek help. You may be asked to stay for a short observation period.
- You can resume normal activities, though you may feel tired or need to rest. Drink water and eat a light meal to help with fatigue or nausea.
