Ocrevus
Ocrevus (ocrelizumab), a monoclonal antibody that is used to treat various forms of relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS). MS is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS) that affects millions of people worldwide. The disease causes inflammation and damage to the protective coating around nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord, leading to a wide range of symptoms including numbness, weakness, difficulty walking, and vision problems. B cells are a type of immune cell that plays a crucial role in the development of MS. When activated, B cells produce antibodies that attack the myelin sheath that surrounds nerve fibers in the CNS, leading to inflammation and damage. CD20 is a protein that is expressed on the surface of B cells, making it a promising target for MS treatments.

How Does Ocrevus Work?
TREATMENT EDUCATION
Ocrevus works by binding to CD20 on the surface of B cells, leading to their destruction. This reduces the number of B cells in the bloodstream and in the CNS, which in turn reduces the production of antibodies that attack the myelin sheath. By targeting CD20-expressing B cells, Ocrevus can help to slow the progression of MS and reduce the frequency and severity of relapses.
What to Expect During Your Infusion
Before your infusion, it is important to drink plenty of water and come to your appointment hydrated. Additionally, you must alert us as soon as possible to any changes in your insurance to ensure that we are still an in-network provider for your infusion therapy.
- Pure doesn’t believe in waiting rooms. You’ll be taken to your own private suite where you’ll check in and your nurse will take your vitals and complete a pre-infusion assessment.
- To begin the infusion, an IV line will be inserted into your arm or hand. The medication will be connected and the nurse will monitor the infusion carefully, especially the first few minutes, to watch for reactions or side effects and make sure you’re comfortable.
- When the infusion is complete, your IV will be removed and the nurse will apply a bandage. Your nurse will give you instructions on side effects to watch for and when to seek help. You may be asked to stay for a short observation period.
- You can resume normal activities, though you may feel tired or need to rest. Drink water and eat a light meal to help with fatigue or nausea.
